The North of Italy is located about 800 à 900 km from the Netherlands, home of Villagrande. Lots of people are driving the distance in one day, but Villagrande advices to take some more time for the journey. At least 2 days. This is more safe, there is less the chance to fall asleep behind the wheel and the road to Italy offers lots of divers landscapes and landmarks by itself. On top of that, you probably still have a long way to go as soon as you reach the northern border of Italy. Italy reaches from North to South for about 2500 kilometer. Er zijn veel redenen om naar Italië te gaan. Van deze redenen staat de cultuur met een grote C bovenaan. De Galleria Degli Uffizi in Florence, het San Marco plein in Venetië, de toren van Pisa, alle overblijfselen van de Etruskische tijd, waaronder veel graven en fresco's en zo kunnen we nog uren doorgaan. Dat Italië een waardevolle culturele geschiedenis heeft bewijst alleen al het grote aantal monumenten op de Werelderfgoedlijst.

Italia is ook een land dat zijn tradities hoog houdt. Het is een overwegend katholiek land, dus er zijn natuurlijk de katholieke feestdagen zoals Kerst en "La Befana", een oude dame die al eeuwenlang in de nacht van 5 op 6 januari op haar bezemsteel cadeautjes, snoepjes en chocolaatjes brengt aan Italiaanse kinderen. Maar ook evenementen als de Palio in Siena (2 juli en 16 auguatus) of Ferrara (mei), het Carnavale di Viareggio (eind februari) of de Palio dei Normanni in Sicilië (2 weekend in augustus) zijn goed bewaard gebleven en indrukwekkend om bij te wonen.
